3M Peltor ComTac VI NIB Headset Coyote Brown NATO Single Comms condition is New (Other). Opened for inspection and testing but otherwise unused. The mic wind protectors package has been opened. ComTac VI has been improved with new omni-directional microphones and high fidelity speakers with greater sensitivity to help replicate sound more clearly and accurately. The new digital signal processing circuitry and new transmit microphone is designed to help improve speech intelligibility and the environmental listening functions ability to detect and locate sound from previous generations of the platform. 3M PELTOR ComTac VI has new omni-directional microphones, high fidelity speakers, and a new digital signal processor that helps improve the overall sound quality of the headset. The environmental listening feature, also known as talk-through is a means of allowing safe audio sounds to bypass the individual hearing protection electronically while still helping protect against harmful noises. This is accomplished with 3Ms proprietary digital audio circuit integrated into the headset. A microphone receives the sounds outside of the headset and transmits them to a speaker inside of the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit senses noise levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level. Sound detection, sound identification, sound localization, speech communications, all important components of auditory situational awareness, impacting Warfighter efficiency and safety. The 3M PELTOR ComTac VI offers a new way to adjust the auditory settings of your headset for your mission. Traditionally, a headset has a set frequency response, and the operator can only increase or decrease the volume. The MAP function provides new advanced ambient listening modes that allow access to a variety of gain settings, but with frequency shaping, to enhance auditory performance in five conditions. The MAP Profiles have been designed with a variety of combat and combat support operations in mind. NIB enables short-range, headset-to-headset communication in high noise environments, without the use of an external communications radio. The NIB function allows for 4 team members to speak simultaneously, and over 60 people within a 10-meter radius to listen at any given time. Audio transmit is activated by either a voice-activated switch (VOX) for hands-free operations or by push-to-talk. The VOX switch is adaptive, meaning the threshold to activate will adjust automatically to the noise environment. To help reduce user burden, a tactile button has been added to the left ear cup that allows the user to easily turn on or off the function / and switch from VOX to PTT settings. In addition to the environmental microphones, the legacy boom mic for external radio transmissions has been replaced with the MT33. This boom greatly improves the audio transmit in various noise conditions. The main, critical improvement to the MT33 provides is its noise cancellation performance. The MT33 provides 18db in noise cancellation vs the legacy microphone, which provided 6db in noise cancellation measured at 10mm distance, normalized for 0db a 1khz. 3M has replaced the leather headband, for a modern rubberized band that is easy to remove if the user wants to convert to ARC adapters (or convert back to a headband). This headband has increased environmental resistance to heavy maritime environments. Some users are fielding new, multi-channel software defined radios. The power output, waveforms, and encryption these radios are exhibiting have caused 3M to increase the overall immunity to Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in its COMTAC platform. 3M has implemented shielding within the cables and around the circuitry to help ensure the headset will be immune the effects of the new radio systems. The ComTac 5 utilizes U-174 plug, and will connect directly into your existing push-to-talk radio adapter Connection. 3M has updated the software to allow users to easily access the audio customization features the ComTac platform offers, such as: Balance Mode Adjusts the environmental listening function volume balance between the left and right speaker giving the operator the ability to prioritize audio or adjust to their own personal preference Release Time The release time setting adjusts the time before the limiter opens after activation. The default setting is optimized for combat operations. The extended delays may be more suitable for in-door fire arms training Volume Boost In applications where double hearing protection is required, the volume boost function, (aka: ear-plug mode) increases the volumes of ambient sound and the external input by about 6dB.
